I have an older ARLO Pro camera system with the VMB 4000 base station.  If I purchase the ARLO Pro 4 VMC4050P camera to add to my system will I be able to record locally on a usb drive connected to my base station without a subscription?  I am not interested in recording to the cloud.

The VMB4000 can record to a USB drive but you must Eject the drive for viewing on a computer since the app can't directly view them. Your likely choice is to purchase a VMB4540 SmartHub and migrate your cameras to that instead so you can use local recordings through the app.

You will be able to record locally.  But the VMB4000 has no support for playback.  So you will need to eject the storage using the app, and then connect it to a PC for viewing.

A VMB4540 smarthub would let you access recordings from the app (but not the browser).  There are other restrictions, so if you want to explore that option then post back.
