Why is Camera not detecting Motion, pro 3

Anyone find that their Arlo pro 3 utterly unreliable at detecting motion in the activity zone? Our camera did not record or detect a thief entering our locked front gate and stealing our packages. I called support and they were useless. Camera started recording after the thief was inside our gate, him stealing our packages and leaving. We were home at the time and had the camera detected when the thief entered the gate (squarely in middle of our set activity zone), we could have stopped him. Anyone else find the 2k cameras to be useless. Would love suggestions on cameras that actually work the way they are advertised.

Is the gate in the center of the field of view? If so, adjusting the camera position might improve performance.
The camera is more sensitive to motion across the field of view than it is to motion down the center. It is also more sensitive to motion at the bottom of the field of view than the top.
