Just to be clear, the only way to extend range is to buy another base station? I dont think thy sell them separately. Since this product is net gear, why cant they just put out a range extender or use existing wifi. This is terribly disappointing. I probably would not have purchased htis product if i new it communicated via the base station and not my WiFi network (which has strong signal everywhere).

They do. You'll find them at shop.arlo.com, but perhaps they'll be cheaper elsewhere.

It's not Netgear - Arlo spun off from them quite a while ago now.
FWIW, some of the newer cameras are able to use either your WiFi or a base station. That is the case with the Video Doorbell, and also the new Pro 3 Floodlight. So I think they have heard this feedback.
