New app update is terrible. you, mark a video as a favorite, and it will delete the file anyway even though it’s marked as a favorite. I have lost all my old favorites prior to February even though I pay for extra storage  now I have to get a completely new system because Arlo is terrible

In the past a favorite that was saved locally could not be deleted unless you removed it as a favorite.  There was no retention/grace period.
Now if you mark it as a favorite it can still be deleted.

This is a bit confused.

  1. Every video stored in the Arlo Cloud is automatically deleted when the retention period is reached.
  2. Video downloads to your phone or PC are never automatically deleted (even when the cloud video is deleted).
  3. Videos locally saved on your base (USB storage with the VMB4xxx or microSD for the VMB5000) are normally deleted automatically.  As the storage fills, the oldest recordings are deleted.  (There is a setting for this, the other option is to just stop storing new videos when the storage fills).

That said,

  1. The main feed should identify videos marked as favorites
  2. there should be a warning when you try to delete a favorite from the app.

So there are some changes needed.

Nothing new here, as videos have always been deleted at the end of the retention period.

It seems to be the retention period minus one day. Even on my 7-day storage, I seem to be able to access the last six days, and although I can select the seventh, it has no recordings.

I have this problem as well with the Favorite in Feeds not saving.  I trusted it to retain certain feeds but lost them when doing a delete of all thinking I would not lose those.

Deleting all video will indeed delete the favorites as well. Furthermore, the favorites will be deleted within the 30 to 60 day period depending on what plan you have. If you would like to save the video's you could download them to your device as well as save them to the local storage.
