I have an old base vmb4000r3 with two cameras but I was thinking of just adding the pro 3 Add on camera to the setup but I don’t want to buy it If it’s not compatible.

Cgurm,
Yes. You can pair a Pro 3 camera with a vmb4000. For more information on this, take a look here: Is Arlo Pro 3 backwards compatible with my existing Arlo system?
note: With an Arlo Smart plan, cloud based recordings will be saved in up to 1080p resolution for Pro 3 cameras synced to a vmb4000 based station.

So just to be clear from what JamesC stated. Though the 4000 basestation will connect and work with it, almost everything will be in 1080p and not 2k that the camera supports with the newer hubs. Only local streaming will be in 2k.

Mavrrick,
Local live streaming and local storage backup (if you choose to enable it) can be 2K.
