Why did this camera stop recording during this guy's visit to my door?

What setting do I need to change. There is place of motion do there is no reason why it just stopped.

What motion sensitivity was this set at?

Thanks for your reply. It's set to 80 percent.

What I recommend is you start and 100 and turn it down as you get false alerts/triggers. This will optimise your detection. Personally, what I find is a camera like this can be at 100 at night but something like 93 or 87 during the day due to the IR reflecting off cars and trees etc. Due to this, I run day and night modes on a schedule for optimal performance but you might just want to start with turning it up on this camera for now

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

The camera is still stopping and starting mid-motion after you asked me to change the setting to 100%

Example of my wife watching the kids going to the school bus.  This should be ONE video in my opinion.

The first 3 videos, motion is minimal enough for long enough for the camera to not detect motion for a while. Just remember that these cameras work off a PIR motion sensor, not pixel based detection. PIRs work with "beams" and multiple beams need to be broken for motion to be detected. Video 4 is as expected as your wife leaves the frame before recording ends

I guess I will just need to reposition the camera over the door looking straight out then, right?

Looking straight out is worse. To get the subject to "cross beams" you'll want the camera off to the side as much as you can. PIR sensors are not great if the subject walks directly towards the camera until they get really close

I do appreciate your responses.  Thank you.

I tried fixing my problem with setting a TIMED recording versus when the motion stops.

This drained my battery like crazy so now I am back to being unhappy with ARLO.  😞

Thank you for your time anyway.

I have 3 cameras covering the driveway and front door. 2 are on for set times and one is off to the side and records until motion stops. For the two that cover the driveway area, they are set at 90 degrees to each other and not only trigger themselves for 30s but trigger each other for 45s. I don't mind recharging the batteries every 2-3 months with about 10-15 recordings per day on average. The fixed timings generally work well for me but would need to be adjusted for a specific area and looking at how long motion in a given area would generally be expected to last.

Recording for a fixed duration shouldn't drain the battery any more than multiple recording of the same duration

Setting a camera to do 60 seconds or 120 seconds for each event did drain the battery.  For instance, if a 2-second event of a car driving by sets if off for 120 seconds every time it did drain.   Record till motion would have only used a few seconds of recording and used less battery.  Maybe it was the AUDIO that was draining it.... I will try the recording timing again to see if I am wrong because I turned Audio off at the same time as the 120 second recording setting.

Yeah, if you record for 2 minutes for every activation, it'll run down faster. Also, try to minimise unwanted activations
