When I have night vision turned on, video is washed out or way over exposed?

When I have night vision turned on my night time video is washed out or way over exposed. When I have it turned off I get a much better picture. Brightness is set at 50% See attached photo.

If using a shell cover, try and remove it...

also make sure the IR isn't reflecting off a side wall and reflecting which can wash out pic

Thank you TomMac, that may very well explain it. I put the skin on it a few days after we had a heavy rain. The camera had a foggy lens for a few days after the rain. Once it dried out I put the skin on it. Why would this affect it? And how can I otherwise protect it from the rain?

Something like RainX can help (depending on how much rain).
