When I download a video from Arlo onto my photos file on my IPhone 8 the video won’t play and gives this message when I try to edit it.

UNABLE TO LOAD VIDEO
An error occurred while loading a higher quality version of this video.

@StephenB Agree. I thought this was a fresh thread but saw it is the one I was referring to.

@StephenB wrote: It could be something in Photos/iOS.  But it still would be useful to get more clarity on what is going on, and if there is a workaround.

Looking at it more, it does appear to linked to iCloud/Photos - I couldn't edit other videos I shared to photos either.

But I was able to find a work-around (clumsy)

  1. Create a videos folder in Files (on the iPhone)
  2. Use Share in the Arlo app, then "Save to Files"  Save it to the Videos folder
  3. Select the video in Files, and trim it in Files.  Save to a new clip.
  4. Share the trimmed video

Now the trimmed video will appear in Photos, and can be further edited (straightened, etc) if desired.

Gold star to you! Thanks for that work-around to keep things on the phone.
