I've had my Arlo Pro2 since 4-1-2021. I have been very happy with it. No subscription required.
Model VMB4000.
Now it's telling me I need to subscribe? What's the deal?

Arlo has been giving legacy cameras users a trial subscription recently, apparently when the interface was updated from Library to view recordings to Feed. At the end of the trial you will still get the free 7 day plan so you can just ignore the message for the time being, even though it's annoying.
