We have set the camera to record people only, but we are sent notifications of motion and videos are recorded every 3-5 minutes of just shadows & trees in the distance moving etc which is draining the battery. We even upgraded the plan but still having the same issue. Anyone have any luck resolving this?

Since the classificaton is done in the Arlo Cloud, using object detection/smart notification has no effect on power use.  The camera just streams whenenever it detects motion.  The cloud applies activity zones and object detection.

In order to reduce power use, you can

  1. adjust the camera position to minimize extraneous motion in the field of view
  2. reduce the motion detection threshold

On (2) move around in the area of interest, and find the lowest threshold that detects you using the motion detection test.  Then set the actual threshold slightly above this value.

The camera is more sensitive to motion at the bottom of the field of view than it is at the top.  So if the extraneous motion is usually higher in the field of view, inverting the camera (and using the rotate 180 degree camera setting) can also help.

Getting the recordings is normal.  But you shouldn't be getting notifications is the only classification you've enabled is people.   How are these extra notifications classified?
