First the pro2 cameras only link/ talk to a base unit ( not a router) ....tho the base does plug into a router via Ethernet.
The 300 ft range is only under the best conditions just like normal wifi...
any wall , etc in the way and distance goes down.
In real world I would say max is prob about 150 ft+
Morse is faster than texting!

Mine is twelve ft from the front door, with a camera outside at the top of the door. My signal is half according to the camera, and motion "stills" are blocky at best.
Not to mention 1 of my camera's is located directly above the base, and I get blocky motion.

There's an awful lot that goes into a quality signal. DIstance is only one parameter. House construction is one (stucco sucks due to the wire mesh used to hold it in place) but ductwork, mirrors and other metallic objects in the path make a difference as does 2.4GHz interference from any wireless device, not just WiFi. I suppose it's possible that your "crappy router" could be a source of problems but you'd need to test things to be sure, such as moving the base away from the router, making sure it's not in the path of the connection between base ad camera, etc.
