Is motion detected on camera or Base station/Smart hub?

I see there is a motion sensor on camera, but I am wondering how this works?

If it is all on the camera, then that saves battery, but when it comes to detection zones, people, vehicle and animals, surely the smarts is on the Smart hub or base station?

I have a support call open with Arlo on recording issues, but they are more looking at problems with the App! Surely it is just with the camera and base station/smart hub and CVR should just be storing it all on the cloud continuously and adding tags for people, cars etc.

Motion (and audio) detection is done by the camera itself.

Smart notifications/classifications are done in the Arlo Cloud and require a subscription.

When operated on battery, activity zones are also processed in the cloud (not the base).  The camera always streams video whenever it detects motion, the cloud processes the video and supresses recordings and notifications for out-of-zone motion.  That also requires a subscription.

Some (not all) Arlo cameras will process activity zones in the camera when connected to AC power.  That doesn't require a subscription.
