I own a VMB400r3 base station which supports 4 Arlo Pro 2 cameras. About 3 days ago for some unknown reason my base station lost internet connectivity. I went through the recommended troubleshooting (i.e. disconnecting power, pressing the reset switch, checking and changing out LAN cables, resetting my internet modem etc.). After having no luck trying to revive this unit, I decided that it must have expired….so I ordered a new “smart hub” (base station). Well…2 days after ordering the new unit, my old base station came back to life!! A Christmas miracle?…..I think not. At the risk of sounding conspiratorial, I’m wondering if this company purposely disabled the internet feature on my base station to upsell me a new unit. Being a former telecommunications person, I know that this is possible…cable companies use this ability to monitor and discern signal abnormalities. Has anyone in this community experienced this? If my suspicions are correct this is a very unethical business practice. Or course….it could be a Christmas Miracle

I will for sure pass that information onto the team and see if we can get some documentation on that. I hope you have a great rest of your day.

I assure you that Arlo did not disable the basestation in any type of way. There is several reasons that the basestation could have went offline. Could have been the ethernet cable, a problem with the Wi-Fi, I can not be certain what caused yours to go down but I am happy to hear that it is working again. If your new Basestation is not needed, it could always be returned. Unless you are wanting to keep it, whatever way works best for you. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you for your response….I understand your concern with my negative theory and I appreciate that you want to protect your company brand. I did trouble shoot though (changing out cables, rebooting the base station, rebooting my WiFi modem etc.) . I don’t know why my old base station lost connectivity….It could have been a software issue…..OR it could have been a Christmas Miracle hahaha. I decided to keep my new Smart Hub and it works fine. One more thought…When installing my new Smart Hub with my existing cameras, there were no instructions or procedures for doing this…I figured it out through. Adding cameras is simple, but when a new base station is added there is a gap in installation instructions. Maybe Arlo can fill that gap.
