You need to have a subscription plan to use the smart notifications.
If using smart notifications the cameras will still record to the cloud where the smart notifications are decided upon.

I do have the subscription plan Arlo Secure but just on one camera. , I will add the other so I can have it differentiate between the 2. Thanks so much for your help!
