I’ve own my Arlo cameras - five of them- for over five years. I bought 4 from best buy and one from Amazon. I don’t want to be forced into a subscription because I don’t need one. I just them to monitor my home myself. Today I received a message they they are not working because I need. Subscription. What’s going on? The cameras are mine! Can Arlo highjack my cameras - my private property-that I own free and clear?

Nobody's hijacking anything. It appears to me that something has changed in the backend that causing this message - there have been several other similar reports recently.

@JamesC , @ShayneS any updates on this issue?

llicelestin,

Where are you seeing this message? If you only have 5 cameras and they are all legacy devices, you should not need a subscription for cloud recording.

Solved for me  (were INACTIVE not offline):

We had the same error message saying our cams were inactive and needed a subscription, after a base station power reset a few weeks ago.  We have ARLO PRO and PRO 2s that should not need a subscription to activate.

We removed the Base Station, and re-added it and all of the CAMS (we have 4 wireless) and voila.. all is good.

Note: after the base station is "re-discovered" and added, you can re-add your cams by simply clicking SYNC on the base station for 2 -seconds until the SYNC light (right) blinks and then bring the cam within 2 feet of the base station and click SYNC on the CAM for 2 seconds. When the blue light stops blinking, it should be added under the base station.

I will add this post to a few threads since I see so many are still having this issue. TECH SUPPORT, feel free to add to or revise these instructions to help those that need this fix.

ARLO has honestly been a great product and I would hate to think about replacing our rather large investment with a lower quality product.  If you can afford the monthly fee and new equipment, I HIGHLY suggest it.
