Hi Community!

I'm preparing to make my purchase and planning my layout.

I'm intending on Direct Wiring my Cameras to have CVR.

Do I need to have the battery installed in the camera if it is plugged into an outlet?

Thank You in advance.

Mike

As far as I know you do not need the battery if your have it continually AC powered.

Having the battery installed means the camera will stay alive even in a power outage. However, to make that useful you also need a UPS for your modem, router and base so thay keep working, too. Make sure you use an appropriate charger that will keep the battery topped off (5v and 9v outputs) and that they are weatherproof for outdoor cameras. The cable has to be sealed where it connects to the camera.

Hi Mike,

Direct to your question, no you don't need a battery in the camera if the camera is plugged into an AC outlet. I have one camera mounted on the garage powered by AC with no battery in it. The camera is under the eaves and I used the cable and AC charger that came with the kit, the AC adapter is inside the garage and only the last 30 cm of cable is "outside" but still under the eaves and never gets wet by rain.
