I have 5 Arlo pro 2 that were connected to a VMB4000 base station. The base station started to sporadic lose connection to the internet, so I have purchased a new VMB4540 instead.

I started by removing the VMB4000 from the app, and then adding the VMB4540 to the app. When trying to follow the instructions to connect the 5 cameras nothing happens. I have tried to factory reset the cameras by holding the sync button for 15 seconds, but no orange LED comes on. I have also tried to hold the sync button for 30 seconds while installing the battery, but also with no luck.

I tried all the same again with the VMB4000 after factory resetting it with the small reset button (the one in the hole), but all the same issues with that procedure.

Has arlo loaded firmware in my cameras preventing a factory reset, or am I missing something here?

This seems very odd and I am pretty frustrated that I spent the money for the new base station just to find that my cameras are "bricked".

Remove them from the account (try the Data Privacy option) and then start from scratch with the new base station, followed by cameras, though I'd not dismiss the old one altogether.

What makes you think that VMB4000 was losing access? Did the LEDs on it confirm that? In electronics, something either works or it doesn't at all. Anything in-between has to do with firmware/software.

If the above fails, there have been reports of Arlo Pro 2 not being online because of the server issues at Arlo's end.

Regarding the pro2 camera, these are not able to be factory reset by the user but you can restart them by removing the camera battery for at least 10 sec.

Regarding the 4000 base factory reset, use the paper clip to operate the internal reset button by holding it until the base LEDs begins flashing amber. Wait a few minutes for the base to settle and LEDs show constant green, green and amber . The constant amber camera led indicates that the base is waiting  to be claimed by an account.

If your then able to add the base station successfully to your account, but struggling to add the cameras, try using the manual syncing method by momentarily pressing the base top sync button to put it into search mode then momentarily press the camera sync button to start the add process.

As @Edinburgh_lad1  has already mentioned, arlo has problems with their new app and backend servers for legacy devices.
