About a month ago, the base became offline either due to firmware update or disrupted internet, not sure which, and I haven't been able to add it back after following steps provided by tech support many times. The current state is arlo app is not able to find the base, and the base LED is flashing amber.

Some observation

1)The base is connected to the LAN, I can see it in route's client list

2)At the very beginning, the app was able to find the base, but failed to update firmware. But since then I haven't been able to reach that far.

3)Arlo support keeps telling me it's because http ports 80 and 443 are not open. I have never done anything with http ports for incoming traffic, and it had been working for several years until a month ago.  I use verizon fios for internet. It seems absurd to me to ask Verizon to open port for traffic from outside. All my other devices like PS2 console, Windows PC have no problem updating their softwares.

4)I saw a similar thread but no conclusion. https://community.arlo.com/t5/Arlo/Hub-Will-Not-Connect/td-p/1927349

Can someone shed some light please?

Have you tried the hardware (paper-clip) reset?

Note you do need to remove the base from your account before you try it.

That's not the issue.  If you can browse the web, the ports are ok.  FWIW, I also use Verizon Fios, and I've never needed to open any ports to get Arlo kit to install.

Is this a VMB4000 base?  (Look for a VMBxxxx label on it).
