installed 2nd 5-camera arlo pro 2 - first works well - but in spite of base connected to xfinity router and cameras synced with base, cameras not listed under base and no live stream. cameras also continue to prompt for firmware update, but doesn't go through. Prompts for update to version that is currently listed.

I'd remove all of the devices (base and cameras) for that second system under Settings, My Devices. For good measure, also hold the base reset button until the LEDs flash amber. Start fresh and verify that all firmware is up to date as you go. Any better?
ALso, what plan do you have? If using the free plan, only 5 cameras are supported. You'd need to change your plan to a paid one or use a second email address for a new account for the second system.
