Security zones?

So I have a dozen cameras and thinking about getting a security system but I need to cover a detached garage also. Can you set up different security zones with the system to say cover so many cameras and sensors? If not what would be the best way to cover the house and garage?

Assuming I get what you're asking, you can't set up security zones with Arlo except by using cameras to create those zones. That is, if you have areas that need monitoring, you need to position cameras in appropriate locations to cover what you need. You can create various zones within each camera's view as needed to exclude unneeded areas. You should know that a recording is still made so the servers can determine if the activity is within/out the zone. If outside the zone(s) the video will be discarded.

Ok so how would I go about having cameras and security cover the house and garage? Can two separate security system share the same cameras? Just looking for options of how this can be done. I know how to set zoning up on the cameras that is not what I need. I need say zone 1 - 4 cameras and 4 sensors garage and zone 2 - 8 cameras and 8 sensors house but that don’t sound possible.

I think we need to understand a bit more on how you want the system to behave - that will clarify how you want the security zones to work.

One aspect is whether you want to put a security hub at (or in) the garage - and if you do, whether you want a separate PIN for the garage than you have for the house.

Another is scheduling/geofencing - whether you want separate schedules for the home and garage.  Details on that would be helpful.

If you do want these areas to be completely separated, then you could set up a "garage" location in the app.  But if you have a subscription, you'd need a second one - subscriptions only cover the cameras in one location.

I want to garage to be kind of on it’s own but still be part of the house network.  Can I have hub In The house and a wireless keypad in garage?  Sounds like two separate security systems would be best but I still want to share the Same cameras.

You can add a wireless keypad accessory at the garage.  But that is assuming that the distance isn't too great.

How far would the garage be from the security hub?

It’s about 200’ but I have a mesh network and a range extender niod in the garage it picks my WiFi just fine. 
   Can you have two security system and share the same cameras? That would solve the issue.

The connection between the security hub and the keypad doesn't use WiFi.  It uses a proprietary protocol (Arlo SecureLink).  Range should be further whan wifi, but maybe not 200 feet.

Unfortunately, no.  The two systems need to be in different "locations" in the app, and the cameras also need to be mapped to those "locations".

Keep in mind that the camera's motion detection is limited to about 25 feet.  If the buildings are 200' apart, then sharing cameras might not be that useful anyway.
