How can I update firmware so my camera would work with 3rd party sim? How to unlock?

Hi, I moved from US to Europe, and I have Verizon camera, that no longer works in EU network. How can I update firmware so my camera would work with 3rd party sim ?

TMK, you can't as they are service provider specific ( just like phones )

You can unlock a phone, it is a simple procedure of rewriting firmware. So hardware is identical, so why  can't I change a software? Or now I must trow away my 350+$ camera just because?
