I'm recharging the Outdoor Essential Gen 2 camera for the first time since I got it four months ago. I am using the supplied indoor charging cable with a 12-watt adapter that came with an iPad. It was originally down to <3%, and it's been charging for nine hours and is still not fully charged (but >90%). Is this an unusually long time, and should (could) I be using a different adapter (I have larger ones that came with MacBooks) to speed things up? Similarly, is the supplied USB-C cable special, or can I use any USB-C charging cable; e.g., such as a charging cable for a MacBook (I have a bunch of these)?

I've seen a similarly long time sometimes with my own Gen 2 XL.  I'm not sure exactly how long, as I ended up leaving it on the charger overnight.

The USB-C cable in the box is standard.  But I don't know what power delivery it supports. It is odd, but USB-C charging can be limited by the cable - not just the device being charged and the charger.

So you could try your MacBook cable, and see if that charges quicker.  It should also be safe to try your MacBook charger.

For future visitors it does matter. It's all about the power supply to cable needs 5amp for best results. I used arlo cable and power bank and fully charged from 20% takes 6-8 hours double that if you using just regular USB-c cable. Enjoy!

If using a quality charger and cable there's no need for a 5 amp capability. I, along with many others, use virtually any cable and any 2 amp charger with no issues. The only thing that can be an issue is excessive length of the cable which can be resolved with an appropriate cable designed for power delivery over that length. The charger itself may need to change if that length is truly excessive.

Odd though it may seem, USB-C cables differ both on speed and power delivery.  That said, all can deliver 5v/2.4amp (12 watts). The differences show up at higher wattages (e.g. charging phones and laptops)..

FWIW, the USB-A to USB-C cables (often used for charging) are limited to 5 v/2.4 amps (12 watts)

Welcome to the faulty battery club. Mine are under a year old and batteries fail.
