After the new purchase free trial expired, the camera does not seem to have the capability to record a 7 day history like my other Arlo Pro2 units. I can not make the Essential Spotlight camera record without a service contract. Is

Correct. All the newer cameras (starting with the Ultra in 2018) require a subscription to get any cloud storage.
