My Arlo Essential camera now does not trigger a movement recording for the top ¼ of the frame. I have the whole frame in an activity zone and it used to record vehicles in the street (in the upper part of the frame) but no longer does. This is only since the upgrade of the app.

How far away is the motion your attempting to capture? Is it possible it's beyond the cameras range (maximum of ~23 feet)?

Thanks for that thought but I don't think distance is the issue since the problem only started after the upgrade of the Arlo app to version 3.1. The camera position has not changed and it used to record vehicles going by in the street but now it does not even though the street is clearly still in the activity zone.

The app would not effect how the camera functions (cam FW possibly) but you can update the app to 3.2. You can also if using activity zones delete it and add a new zone.
