I have an existing older system at two different locations (homes), and I’m thinking of up grading the system to use newer cameras. I currently have a VMB 4500 and a VMB4640 base station at each location,…can you tell me the newest cameras that would work in this system?

The VMB4540 SmartHub would be the best way to connect new cameras although either one would work. The 4540 allows you to set up local recordings to a thumb drive that would then be directly viewable using the app. As for just connecting new cameras, you would have no problems using either base or hub.
Note that new cameras require a subscription for cloud recordings.
