My Arlo essential recorded and stored video like my older Arlo Pro cameras for the first month. The Arlo pros are still recoding video. I can go live in the essential but it is not storing video anymore.

This sounds like the trial subscription for the Essential expired.
The Pro cameras were sold with 7-day free cloud storage. The Essential (like all currently sold cameras) is not sold with this feature, and requires a subscription to get the cloud storage needed for the recordings.
The need for a subscription is on the box (though not as prominently as I'd like).
