I am unable to connect my VCM2030 to connect to my wifi, am i missing something?

My Essential Spotlight Camera - VCM2030W-100NAS will not connect with my Netgear 1600 dual band router, hardware version R6260, firmware version v1.1.0.88.  I am connected (phone) to the 2.4GHz Network only, WIFI calling - OFF, Mobile data - OFF.   I go through the setup as per the Arlo Secure app.  I get to the CHIME and the router cant find the camera.   Now as I'm writing this, I havent touched the camera for at least 15 minutes, and I'm going through the steps on the app to ensure that I am writing this correctly,  the router detects the camera.  I didn't push the SYNC button.  Is this the way this system normally operates?   I'm not sure if I will ever get it to detect it again.  Am I missing something?
