My outdoor essentials v2 cameras are notifying me of alerts, however not recording. Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Has the trial subscription expired?

Has anyone figured out how to record videos locally to a base station such as VMB4500 without needing a subscription?

You can record to a VMB4000 or VMB4500. But neither base has any playback functions. You'd need a VMB4540 or a VMB5000 smarthub:

Did you check the camera rule(s) in the mode(s) you are using?

Thank you Stephen. I guess they want you to upgrade to a new base station with the gen2 camera. I understand, but I wish they would tell you that before you buy the newer camera.

Well, they want you to subscribe.
Even with the two smarthubs, local recording has significant limitations:
- recordings can only be played in the app, not the browser (my.arlo.com)
- recordings can only be played using the primary account (not "friend" accounts)
- no thumbnails, so each recording needs to be downloaded to your phone before you see anything
- no ability to make manual recordings or snapshots
- remote access requires router setting changes that many find difficult (and which don't work with some internet service providers).

With the Arlo 2 cameras and the 4500 I was fine without subscription. I only use phone app. I wanted the better camera so maybe I’ll upgrade the base. I appreciate your responses to me.
Take care
