Hello, I have four Essential 2K Wireless Security Cameras and a VMB5000r6 hub, and I am unable to activate recording on them, even though the hub's technical specifications (https://kb.arlo.com/000062284/ Arlo-SmartHub-and-Base-Station-Compatibility) it says that it is compatible with Essential cameras... Could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you and have a nice day.

Yes.  Cameras need to be connected through the smarthub in order to get local recordings.  You also need a microSD card in the smarthub (at least 16 GB - I generally recommend 128-512 GB).

There are limitations:

  • Recordings are only available in the app (not my.arlo.com)
  • Recordings are only available using the primary account (not shared accounts)
  • No thumbnails, so you need to download recordings to your phone before you see anything
  • No ability to make snapshots or manual recordings while livestreaming
  • Remote access requires router setting changes that many find difficult (and which won't work with some internet service providers)

Are the cameras connected through the smarthub?  Or are they connected through your home wifi?

Hello and thank you very much for your reply. No, I don't think so. I installed and configured them directly via the app and connected them to the Wi-Fi network. At no point did I have the option to connect them to the hub... Could that be the problem?

Thank you again for your reply!

I found it! I had simply connected it to WiFi since the HUB was the last thing I installed!

Thank you very much for your response!
