I bought the camera (Essential XL) on a recommendation. We have a neighbor we suspect has abused out dog and want to deter or capture evidence. That's it, no other concerns. When we put it up we were instantly concerned about having to take it back down to charge so we bought the solar power charger - put it up and were pretty happy about what we saw we had. Then the "Feed" went away and we we pitched a monthly subscription. Buyer beware!! We didn't do our due diligence research and are now stuck with a camera we have no way of knowing how to use it the way we thought. Without the feed and ability to tailor the camera notification trigger we get notifications of tree branch shadows and no ability to look in the past to see what may have been recorded (our neighbor abusing our dog). Pretty unhappy here...

FWIW, the packaging and Arlo's on-line store both include the need for a subscription.  Though it isn't as prominent on the packaging as I would like.

The simplest option is to get a single-camera subscription - paying monthly - until you get the evidence you are looking for.

In small letters and in no different font or colour from the rest. You can quite easily miss it. I could understand if one of two people didn't notice but this forum is full of complaints about that. I'm surprised this hasn't been reported yet to Advertising Standards Agency here in the UK, and the Office of Fair Trading.
