The VMC2040 (first gen indoor essential) is compatible with homekit when it is connected via a compatible hub (VMB4000, VMB4500, VMB4540, or VMB5000).

The 2nd gen indoor essentials aren't compatible with hubs (or homekit) yet.  Arlo says they are planning to add the feature, but haven't said when.  If this is must-have for you, then I suggest waiting until they release it.
