There has been a few comments about a replacement or an update - or at the very least a dedictaed wifi free monitor - any news before I comit to buying the motorola please?

There was an update on the Baby... it was a change in the color of the bunny ears from green to gray.

No hardware changes to my knowledge.

As to a monitor, no info as I haven't heard that... Arlo did in the past offer a good discount on a Kindle as a montior ( to prev buyers ) when they decided it wasn't cost effective to put one out.
