I've read that the Arlo doorbell will count "against" one of the 5 devices for free 7 day cloud storage (due to 7 day audio cloud storage). Is this correct? If so, count me OUT.

You read that right. Although the Audio Doorbell isn’t camera-equipped, Arlo offers cloud storage for it…well, cloud audio storage. Calls made through the audio doorbell are recorded and saved to the cloud for 7 days. You can listen to past recordings using the Arlo app. Unfortunately, this also means that adding a doorbell will count against your 5 camera limit. While Arlo offers free cloud storage, the offer is limited to 5 cameras per account."

If you look at their source, that tweet has the real limit for a basic plan.
Yes, they do not count towards your camera limit on your plan. For example, on a basic plan you can have up to 5 cameras, 2 doorbells and five chimes.

Good to hear that. I realize that the reviewer probably wrote this article long before Arlo had decided on the price point and what they wanted to offer as far as storage.
Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the Arlo Audio Doorbell and Arlo Chime do not count toward your account camera limit.
