I will be mounting this in a carport at the beach.  What installation options are there so the unit is secure and won't get stolen.  The magnetic mount and plugable system doesn't look secure for outside.

Ohhhhh.... yeah, well for us naive individuals, that wouldn't even occur to us!  .....but I see your point.  Do I need to do something to have the mods check the pictures, or just wait?

Just wait (it's the weekend so maybe slower).  The pics are now available - someone checked them out.

I have used Shutt softball face masks to provide some security to my arlo pros. Pictures attached. You can cut out part of face mask depending on how your camera is mounted. They protect camera from being whacked off mount with a bat of club. Not perfect but will serve as a deterrent.  Probably nothing will stop a truly deterIMG_0609.JPGmined thief.IMG_0609.JPG

I like Miculinic idea...., which I may use this for my front door camera...

My suggestion, which I may be doing is to use a HEX BOLT, with the screws, I hate to say this but any thief can have a small tool on hand to unscrew this..., with the HEX BOLT, they would actually have to go great lengths to obtain this, but by then for them, it's too late, unless they're idiots who decide to come back with the proper tool and hopefully by then, you've caught them!

Great... love out of the box thinking.

Only thing else I can think of is to make sure you add a very short tether  so it doesn't drop down ( if able )

I don't see a cable lock in that picture... the camera on a adjustable mount, and the mask is screwed into the wood facia at each end.

If you wanted a tether tho, it would be simple to attach using a  wire crimp terminal when installing on mount

like this one;

Well, as per my previous post with pics - I've had the cameras up for a while, and so far so good.  The VHB adhesive plates seem to be holding well, sharp tugs and they doesn't budge.  I've attached a couple of pics of the 2 cameras within reach that have been mounted.  You can see how the cables go through the loop on the adhesive plate, and either through the metal loop I mounted on the house or the metal support and then locked with the weather resistant shackles.

For charging, I unlock the shackles, unscrew the cameras and bring inside to charge (although it would be NICE to receive my months-ago ordered BATTERY CHARGER so I can go out and swap batteries on the spot ....  Smiley Mad HINT HINT HINT)

Miculinic:

That looks like a 1/2" screw, do you cut it to a shorter 5/16" to fit into canera thread?

Thanks.

Tom,

what size screw do you use to secure camera, I haven't been able to find 1/4 - 20 short enough to match size of thread (5/16" deep?). Shortest size I could find is 1/2", a little too deep.

Thanks.

Paul

Hi Paul... I guess you could always cut the bolt down ( put nut on first so when you remove the nut the thread are reshaped properly )

But I just went into my junk box found a short bolt and used a thick fiber washer I had too... allowed it to tighten up

Hi Tom,

thanks for the advice. Yeah that will work, or I could screw on a nut onto the bolt up to the head, that would take care of at least 3/16". What do you think?

Thanks.

Paul

Yes that's pretty much it! Worked really well, no need to cut the bolt.

If ref to the tether...one end goes to the bolt threaded into the camera, other to / under the screw holding the mount

Same here......connecting other end with screw holding the mound. I would make sure a bigger screw is used instead of the one that came with it, alternately it could be connected to a separate screw close to the mound.

They cannot block a seral number. I had two of my cameras stolen by a neighbor. They are up running. They are linked to two base stations and the thief has control over them. Nothing can be done. I do not know which neighbor.
