i have the arlo video doorbell 2k. echo show 5 and 8. and arlo base VMB5006. all are at the latest release levels.
Here is the issue.
1. I say Alexa answer doorbell and it works. no problems
2 Hide the doorbell again it closes the doorbell
So Far so good
Now the issue.
Someone rings the doorbell, chimes work.. But asking “ alexa answer doorbell “ returns Alexa famous line “doorbell is not responding”
Question to all.
I suspect that since the doorbell is recording the video to cloud/base station that it is incapable of streaming to the echo show device
if that is the case. Then Arlo needs to find a solution. The objective is to see who is at the door and record.
the same behavior happens if motion detected. But I get the announcement of motion being detected. As long as arlo is recording.
for information only.
I Have silent mode on with Traditional chime is on. This is the only way I can keep arlo from calling my phone (another feature that needs a separate switch) call me or not. Yes I can put arlo on my call block list, again just clunky work around for a feature that needs to be enabled or disabled on its own. Yes my setup stops the doorbell announcement. Hence the motion announcement
Is there a way to stream the video to alexa while it’s recording?
I wish there was a function matrix for arlo. Would mark life easier

Is this result reproducible 100% of the time or is the issue intermittent?

It's 100% repeatable.
In further testing Silent Mode also silences my alexa (amazon echo) notification. Is in not possible to Simply have an options
1. Notification (yes/No)
2. Telephone Call (Yes/No)
3, Chime (yes/no)
4. As to leave a message (yes/No)
5. record (yes/no)
Same thing should apply to Monition detected (obviously telephone call and message nr)
You have call setting including voice mail (haven't checked if they work.. will check that another time)
you have silent mode (but notifications are buried in that setting with no way to get them to work)
in silent mode -- it does NOT record the doorbell ring, no notification on any device -- the only option are chime, and incoming call )
An yes, if a recording is taking place, you can not do a live view on alexa (amazon echo). you get the message. Now if you have record motion detection, you can never get a live view. ( I have not done any testing with view on your app while its recording)
I was planning on getting more camera's, that plan will be on hold until the functionality improves.

Just to follow up. The only time a doorbell ring gets recorded is if you answer the telephone call..
There are only 2 types of recordings 1. Motion and 2. Answered.
Please simply this application and make the system more usable and user friendly.
