Yes, you MUST have a Arlo Base Station for the cameras to operate. Not sure if they're still supporting the Netgear R7000 or not, think they pulled it's support.

You can use the R7k but onlynwith beta firmware that has very old Arlo firmware embedded. I switched back to using a base.
