I have been fiddling with my single camera Arlo system for the past 3 weeks trying to get it dialed in for monitoring my backyard gate/garage entrance. I have had the recording length set to 10 seconds when motion is detected and have been getting primarily 10 second videos but occasionally get some that are between 7 seconds and 15 seconds in length. Last night, while taking the garbage out, I triggered the camera. Later that evening, I was reviewing the video and noticed that the recording length for this one video was 5 minutes long, a full days worth of battery power according to the developers!!
Given that I have spent the majority of my time trying to position the camera to avoid wasting precious battery power recording the leafs moving on the trees and cars passing by on the street...now I cant believe their might be an issue with random 5 minute recordings of nothing as I dont trypically check the length of all the videos recorded!
Has anyone experienced this problem before or have I just been "arlo'ed"?
It seems like the developers should provide a second set of batteries with the purchase or at least a coupon discounting the purchase of a second set knowing the difficulties of the initial set up of the cameras using motion detection.

Are you seeing multiple recordings that exceed your maximum set recording length?

My recording length is set at 10 sec. I have had several today that were longer than the set recording length: a couple at 11 - 13 secs, with the longest at 24 sec.

JamesC - It only happened once on one camera. Recording time was set to 60 seconds but it recorded a three minute clip.

I have mine setup for 2 minutes, today I got one that was 29 minutes!!! I am still in the testing phase and not sure why this is happening. I also had another one (another camera) today that went for 6 minutes, also setup for only 2 minutes. Looking back on the previous days and it never recorded over what I had it setup for. Could it be something with the most current update?

JodiLee,
We are currently investigating an issue that is causing recording lengths to deviate from the specified length. In most cases, this is only a few seconds of variation. Are you experiencing all recordings with such a large variance?

Yes I have a problem with recording length changing by itself. One day records 104 seconds the next 52 seconds. Can't fix it

Please fix this soon as it is extremely frustrating to set recording length and have it randomly change

Just to rule things out, create a new mode and whatever rules you need. Use the same settings as what you're currently using. Enable the new mode manually or in the schedule. Does that make a difference?

Thanks for your suggestion, but I've done that and it doesn't help. All my cameras are set for the same recording length yet each camera records a different length

Shiloh,
Does the recording length actually change in the rules? Is this issue intermittent or does it happen on all library content?

As referenced in many posts, FAQs and knowledge base articles, use the Mode tab, select your system and edit/create modes and rules there. Leave the Armed mode alone so you have something to reference to for troubleshooting. If you create a new mode, only one camera can be set up in that process. Reedit the mode and you can add rules for additional cameras as desired.

I just installed 4 Arlo Pro cameras this week and I initially had them set up to record 58 seconds and then I changed each camera to record actual motion up to 300 seconds. The cameras are still recording the old fixed 58 second length. Why are they ignorning my new 'actual' setting? Very frustrating.

I'd try power cycling the base and open and close battery doors (remove the battery if a Pro camera) to see if that helps.
