Does motion detection ever work?

Like many here, I'm perplexed by the poor motion detction performance I am getting. At first, I thought I'd be mounting one camera to protect one area, and another in a different area to protect that toally separate area. THen I started seeing how haphazard motion detection seems to be. THen I read that the best way of getting motion detection to work is to use more than one camera to trigger the other one...so much for my plan.
So anyways, I have one arlo over my doorstep looking down my walkway. I have the other camera about 20' to the right, at a height of about 7-8'. It is aimed across the same walkway, and the goal was to catch people approaching the home from the walkway, and get the heads-up camera to capture their faces using an 'if camera A detects movement, it triggers camera B' rule.
Below are stills from each camera:
Camera A:
Camera B:
I've had the sensitivity set to as much as 100, and I get videos...it's jus tthat I get them AFTER people have walked up and/or away. That's intolerable slowness.

I can see 'em now. The distance on camA is a bit far but I'd think would work. I'd be tempted to aim the camera down a bit to get rid of the sky but it doesn't seem bad. Perhaps temporarly moving that camera to above the sliding (?) door would be useful but would likely need something other than the magnetic mount to get the angle right.

Yes... I found the PIR is best at about 15 ft max for people...
In your picture, I have a similar setup but cameras are in a different place.
Cam A for me is under where your front gutter down spout is located, aimed at the front door ( person walks under it and sets it off , I always get a vid as they walk back showing faces.
Cam B is would be sort of above the flower pot and aimed out to the yard, your walkway
You'll have to temp mount and test for best results... BTW, Mine are both set at 93% and aimed down more so I don't see the roadway

Thanks to all of you.
I've re-mounted them, and re-aimed them so that no street and no sky are visible. I will try this out for a few days to see how it is.
I may end up moving them based upon performance. RIght now, it's extremely windy, and therefore it's false-positive city!
Stand by. I'll let you all know how I progress. I was inches from returning the set yesterday when I typed that post up. Hopefully some tuning and possibly moving things around improves performance.

Alright, so it's better, but still-the motion detection is way too late when it kicks on. I suspect like [TomMac] said-the PIR is too far away from people to properly detect them.
I'm looking for a place near the far wall of the house where I can aim the distant camera at the walkway and capture motion in time for the other camera to capture faces close-up.
I seem to capture people as they leave, mor ethan as they arrive:

Better..... That's the main reason why I have one at the Gutter location facing the front door... gets them near the door inbound and then walking away with face.

Must admit I am baffled by this as well, despite multpile efforts to place them, i always seem to get someone just as they are going OUT of shot!! Very annoying and I must say after having the system for a while I am increasingly disaapointed in the motion detection. has stopped picking things up at night internally as well
