Hello!

My nest members and I do this almost daily when known members are outside for a long time to avoid getting spammed by the cameras' detections and saving battery lives. Scheduler won't work since the daytime predictions are random.

What about the rest of you?

Thank you in advance. 🙂

Why would you even consider turning off the base.....

Just turn off Motion detect of the cameras.  Thats why there's a default ALL MOTION OFF.....If motion detect is off, the camera goes to sleep and just pings the base station now and then to let it know the camera is still there.

Matter of fact, I believe you'd use more battery by turning the base off as the camera would keep trying to reach the base connection.

Wait, how do you turn ALL cameras off and on online? I don't see an option to do that? That is interesting that turning off base station would use more battery power.

On the app or online click on " MODES" click on " ALL CAMERAS OFF"

Thanks. GUI usability is confusing compared to old fashion physical buttons. Heh.

I still would like to know if turning off the base station really does make the cameras use more battery power. Why even have the physical power button if it does drain more?

Also, is there a way to see if the cameras' motion detections are (dis/en)abled on the physical base station's lights? Or is it only determinable through online (another good reason for physical button to see the light status)?

Yes it does.... confirmed

Sort of like a cell phone that cant reach a tower... it will transmit at max power to try and connect

Look at the RUNNING MAN

if motion is active, the running man is green , otherwise grayed

I don't see a running man icon on the PHYSICAL base station.

Not on the base, there is no indication... In the app/prgm.

Remember, you don't see you video on the base either... you see it in the app/prgm.  You also don't set motion on the base , its done in the prgm so you'd be there already.

FYI after I asked Netgear's support about the wireless cameras' power usage when physically turning off the base station:

Update from NETGEAR:

Hi Ant,

We already have the information about your inquiry. Physically powering off the base station will
NOT make the wireless cameras
use more battery power, it consumes about the same amount of power.
