Message:  The internet connection appears to be offline.  Computer connection works fine.  What do I need to do to make the iPhone connect?

Sounds more like an iPhone problem.  Maybe a static IP address which has been taken by another device.  (You can't have two devices with the same IP address.

solution: open settings on your iPhone, find your network, click on the right arrow, select "forget this network", then try to connect to it again (you'll need your wifi password).    You should now connect.   If that does not work first time then restart your modem, or router, and repeat the attempt to connect
