We live in the central valley of Ca., where summertime temps can it 100+ on a regular basis, does the black skin absorb too much heat to be safe for use with the cam?

Agreed that the skin could act like an insulator but if it's not in direct sunlight the camera will remain at ambient temperatures.  Even if it's directly in sunlight, the camera generally isn't in use so isn't generating heat itself.

don't think the silicon skin would transfer the heat to well... silicon used now in hot plates , oven mitts, cup cake pans, etc
