CAN THE CAMS BE CONNECTED STRAIGHT TO A NETGEAR WIFI ROUTER? OR DO I NEED TO GET THE ARLO BASESTAION NOT MATTER WHAT FOR IT TO WORK?

You need the Arlo base station.... the cameras can't be used as stand-alones.

  The base sets up a wifi system just for the cameras and will sync to them thru it.
