Hi everyone
Question: I want to add another camera to an existing home network. BUT the new camera will be 60 meters away from my house (driveway) which is currently out of my home wifi range. I have a wifi access point (TP-Link AC1200 MU-MIMO Wireless Gigabit Access Point) That gives me that range if needed for that 1 new camera ?
To explain further. My existing 4 cameras are paired to the homebase station and connect on my home network (Wireless5g) The extender access point is connected via a Lan cable to my internet router. But has a different name (potentially it could be named the same)
Once I pair the new camera to the homebase station. How will the new camera connect to the base station to send it's video feed. Does a camera connect to a base station via the wifi network or does it connect directly to the base station?
Based on the above. Is the base station range the limiting factor or is the wifi range the limiting factor

The base station hosts a closed wifi network, and the cameras always use that network. They never connect to your home wifi. The base station itself connects to the internet using ethernet, so it also isn't using your home wifi (unless you bridge the ethernet connection through an extender or a mesh).
If you already have ethernet running to the AP location, then you can add a small switch to connect a second base there as well. Or just put the base there (since the extender won't increase your camera range).

That is a long haul for wifi, and I am thinking you could have trouble making a reliable connection no matter where you put the base station in the house.
Is there an out-building with power that is closer to the camera location? If there is, you could put a base station there (using powerline networking to connect it to your router). Of course if your area gets too cold, the base station might shut down in the winter.

Hi Stephen
Useful information - much appreciated.
There is a garage that's close but yes. It would get cold in the winter and possibly shut down as you mentioned.
I might try moving the base station to the highest point in the house and see if I can get some line of sight to the furthest camera. Or I might need to look at another camera option
Thanks again
