Why doesn't Arlo continue to record motion?

I'm having a ridiculous issue here. The cameras don't continue to record motion past the designated amount of time for each capture.

As an example, I can go set the camera off with motion and it records its 60-second interval (per my settings). However, if activity continues past the 60 seconds, it doesn't continue. It is absolutely ridiculous. Another example is that I saw my contractor get into his truck outside of our house, but there is no video of him leaving. The next video in my log shows an empty driveway. What is the deal?

Does Nest cam have the same fatal flaw?

you can set a record limit of up to 120 sec.  Battery operators camera in general work on a timer rather than continuing to record til movement stops to preserve battery life.  After a pause, I believe 2 min, life movement is still detected a new recording starts
