My older VMC 3030 camera system (6 cameras, original base station) and an unopened complete basestation and unopened camera will soon be discarded into the trash. After working for many hours to get any of the cameras to be paired with the base station, and after trying out the new base station and new camera, it is clear that even the "new" base station is no longer recognized by the updated software (that was installed without my permission). It is unfortunate, since everything was working perfectly until the software updated. The software is the problem, and there are no workarounds.

I was going to give to system to someone, but I really do not want to perpetuate this disaster. Im already using the Eufy cameras quite successfully, so why make things more complicated.

You're making incorrect assumptions. It's not the app software that's the issue but, rather, the migration of the backend servers to support new devices. Just like Microsoft and Apple (among almost any electronics provider) stop supporting old devices/OSes, Arlo's EOL statements don't provide for forever support. Your never been used base has very old software that can't be updated due to these changes over time. If it had been in use all along, the firmware would have changed so the base would keep working.

Also, to be clear, the app itself has changed many times over the years "without your permission" which apparently never bothered you. It's only as time marched on, new devices were released and software changed that the latest interface was needed to be used. Windows 95 isn't anything like Windows 11...
