Hi, I have an older VMB4000 Base Station with Arlo Pro cameras that I have had for maybe 5 to 7 years.  I have not been using this for the last 4-5 years.  When I tried to set this up now, I was able to connect the base station 4000 to my router, and I am getting the proper green LED connection light on both power and internet.

And I was also able to add this device with a new name, but it keeps failing the latest firmware update and goes to offline after its failure.  I talked to the Arlo support and tried many options like, resetting the base station, rebooting the router, re-installing the Arlo App,..etc, but nothing works.

Arlo's support person is telling me that something in the base station is broken, and I have to get a new base station from eBay or somewhere.  Otherwise, get new, latest cameras from Arlo and forget this old model setup.

Any suggestions?  I found many old, used VMB4000 on eBay for 30-$50.  Is that worth it, knowing my cameras (Arlo Pro) are also very old and not supported by Arlo with any new updates.  Thanks,

Old firmware is likely the issue. If old enough, the current software can't update it. I wouldn't buy another used 4000 - bite the bullet and get a VMB4540.

Or go with a different system altogether. Things have changed big time since Netgear introduced the Arlo product to the market. Not only have competition caught up, but also introduced better, or free, features. So, before you buy a new base station, do some research into other products, especially if you're looking for value for money. It's also likely that you'll end up having issues with the old Pro cameras, as evidenced on the forum for legacy customers, so you'll probably have to buy new ones. And with the cost of new ones, there is the cost of the subscription. I'm not trying to put you off this brand; what I'm saying is that you should do some research, as always, before you start investing in one thing or another.
