Using older and problem plagued, unreliable original Arlo cam/base station.
Is there an Arlo system or hardware combo that has proven reliable over time?

While there's always a chance of faulty hardware, there are many other possibilities. Some folks have fought with their system to finally use the Contact Support link at the bottom here to get the faulty equipment replaced - would have been better to have used it in the first place. As for other possibilities, each installation is unique as to how the needed WiFi signal between the cameras and base works. House construction, exact positioning of the cameras relative to the base, wireless devices nearby using the same frequency, etc. all gets in there. Sometimes a bit of troubleshooting is needed to get the desired result.
There's many of us both here and in the rest of the world that have been using these cameras from inception till now with few if any problems. Sure, these forums are littered with complaints but how many folks do you think post their successes in any forum? Any system is going to have issues in certain circumstances and that's what these forums are useful for. Because we aren't at your house we have to rely on full, accurate information to try to help. Without it, suggestions are incomplete or even wrong and the user gets frustrated.
The end result is that all of the various Arlo systems have been reliable when any limitationms in installation and environment are understood and set up properly.

The Pro 3 cameras and hub all are great. They have only glitched twice since we got them, once from a firmware update and once when our power went out. DO NOT buy that garbage wired video doorbell though. I know @jguerdat , the thinks all of the legions of complaints on here are all just due to the entire rest of the known universe being too stupid to work a doorbell, but in actuality the thing has issues that are well documented and undeniable.

@shergr My Pro3 have been reliable also with a glitch here or there. There are a lot of post that were solved that was a function they missed or didn't understand. Some just want to blame Arlo. Of course there are some actual hardware problems as with anything.
