Hello Arlo Community,

I've been experiencing some issues with the night vision quality on my Arlo cameras. The footage isn't as clear as I hoped, and sometimes it's hard to make out details.

  1. What are your best tips for improving night vision clarity on Arlo cameras?

  2. Are there specific settings or configurations that can enhance night-time performance?

  3. Does the placement of the camera or nearby lighting affect the night vision quality?

  4. Are there any accessories or additional equipment that you recommend to boost night vision?

Looking forward to your suggestions and advice! Partner Hours Starbucks

Best,
Rose

Which cameras? Most of the new cameras have spotlights for color recordings which is clearer than those in B&W. Check the camera settings in Night Vision and Light Settings to ensure color is enabled as well as the spotlight.

Without the spotlight, the IR LEDs are used for illumination. That forces the camera to switch to B&W which is noticeably lower quality due to the lack of light to the sensors.

Nearby lighting can affect the camera's auto-exposure, especially if shining into the camera's lens. Camera placement is easier than moving the lights but some testing may be needed.

You have to remember that the IR lighting is limited ( as is regular lighting )....

Re equipment;   IR floods can increase your IR picture by adding additional IR lighting.

There are many IR floods available on the web that are fairly inexpensive... I myself have used an IR flood ( only on at night ) powered by a 12v supply to increase my field of view at night out to about 40 ft ( more distance then the PIR usu detects motion ).  Look for an output at 850nm in spectrum.
