Only records 8-9 seconds after person is within 5 ft? Need to subscribe for cameras to be better?

I have had my arlo for about 3 wks now and I am so so enjoying it, I don't like how it only records 8-9seconds after the person is with in 5 ft. I had a unwanted man in my yard last night and the video only did 9 seconds and only when he was with reaching distance, I wanted to know how he got in my yard and where and can not see. Do I need to subscribe to a plan for the cameras to be better or is this what I get. Thank you

Read the FAQs here on changing settings and creating custom modes. Use the Mode tab, click on your base and edit your modes (Armed by default). All settings including recording length are in there. Be sure to save at any point it's offered.
