Not really 'HD'. Anyway to improve video?

I'm coming from Wifi 720p 1 Mbps cameras from China, not battery operated. The quality difference between those and Arlo cams is remarkable. Night vision especially. I wouldn't have though my $40 720p cameras would outperform the Arlo cameras so badly.

Is there anything that can be done to improve the video quality of these cameras, beyond setting it to highest quality?

I love the convince factor of the Arlo system so far. It's done a great job recording when needed. Biggest complaints are lack of zone, lack of option to continue recording until motion stops.m , poor video quality and lack of audio.

FYI I'm using new batteries that came with it and my wifi is excellent. Thanks!

Frankly, it's not the resolution but the amount of compression.  A choice of compression levels would be useful.

Yeah the video quality is terrible.   I'm also perplexed as to why the camera records for 10 seconds and then shuts off. If you need to present the footage of someone breaking into your garage as evidence it would be nice to have a continuous recording because if it shuts off before you actually see the break in happen it becomes pointless.  I'm also having trouble figuring out how the motion detection even works. I set it to be very sensative and yet it seems to just not record.

This is a good idea, but not executed very well at the moment.

Read through posts in these forums.  You can set the recording time for each camera/mode to be up to 2 minutes, not 10 seconds.  Mode tab, select system, edit a mode, make changes.  Be sure to save on the way out.

You can do 2 minutes, but then the problem is if someone walks thru a scene for 10 seconds it will ALWAYS record for two minutes. Total waste of recording and battery.

It should continue as long as it sees movement instead + 5 seconds. Up to a certain predefined time limit.

Still cannot get good video quality. Anything past 10 feet away and I'm worried I wouldn't be able to make out anyone.

YOU have to decide what's long enough. Your choice - battery life or capture of enough video.

Also, these cameras are very wide angle, comparable to 35mm lenses of about 12mm or so. Dang near fisheye.  It's not for  identification unless they're close enough.
